SQLite Online Editor Without Installation

Use SQLite without installing software. Create tables, insert rows, run queries, test SQLite syntax, and export a database directly from your browser.

You do not need to install SQLite, DB Browser for SQLite, or a database server to experiment with SQLite SQL.

For quick testing and learning, you can use the SQLiz SQLite Playground as an online SQLite editor.

SQLite runs locally in the browser through WebAssembly.

Start without installing anything

Open the SQLite Playground.

A sample database is ready immediately, so you can run:

SELECT *
FROM employees
LIMIT 10;

You can replace the sample SQL with your own query and execute it with the Run button or keyboard shortcut.

Create a database from scratch

A browser editor is also useful for building a small database interactively.

CREATE TABLE tasks (
  id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY,
  title TEXT NOT NULL,
  completed INTEGER NOT NULL DEFAULT 0
);

INSERT INTO tasks (title)
VALUES
  ('Test SQLite query'),
  ('Review schema'),
  ('Export database');

SELECT *
FROM tasks;

The database exists only in the browser tab until you download it.

Learn SQLite syntax

Because SQLite requires no server process, it is well suited to learning SQL concepts such as:

  • SELECT
  • filtering with WHERE
  • JOIN
  • GROUP BY
  • aggregate functions
  • CTEs
  • window functions
  • JSON functions
  • indexes
  • transactions

For function syntax, use the SQLite Function Reference.

Use an online editor for debugging

You can reduce an application problem to a small reproducible script:

CREATE TABLE users (
  id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY,
  email TEXT UNIQUE
);

INSERT INTO users (email)
VALUES ('[email protected]');

INSERT INTO users (email)
VALUES ('[email protected]');

Running the statements in isolation makes it easier to see whether the problem comes from SQLite itself or from application code.

Open an existing SQLite file

The editor can also open local .db, .sqlite, and .sqlite3 files up to 25 MiB.

For a focused walkthrough, see How to Open a SQLite .db File Online.

Export the database

If you create or modify a database in the playground, click Download database before leaving.

That gives you a SQLite file containing the current state of the in-browser database.

Privacy

SQL and database content are processed in the browser and are not uploaded to SQLiz.

That makes the editor useful for quick local development work, although you should still follow your organization’s security policies for sensitive data.

If you only need to test a query, see How to Test SQLite Queries Online.
